45 second anonymous ftp server setup

Setup of ftp server on debian/ubuntu… First install it.

sudo apt-get install vsftpd

Next edit /etc/vsftpd.conf. There are tonnes of options, but this is pretty much the bare minimum.

listen=YES
local_enable=NO
anonymous_enable=YES
anon_root=/var/ftp

Now provide access to directory “Music” in your home area. vsftpd sandboxes the anonymous user with chroot so symlinks won’t work, instead, we’ll use mount –bind.

sudo mkdir -p /var/ftp/music
sudo mount --bind /home/adam/Music /var/ftp/music

Restart to apply the changes.

sudo service vsftpd restart
